This is a photo of me, nearly four years ago, driving my wife’s 05 VW New Beetle Convertible on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I would drive it again if it wasn’t a piece of garbage.

This one was a 5-speed stick. It felt like the gearbox was full of racquetballs.

Really? Haha, I don’t think I’ve ever see a Beetle convertible with manual transmission.

Are VW manuals really that vague? I’ve heard Matt Farah talk about rather having the DSG, because it’s just a better feeling transmission.

This one had a 2.0 ABA 5-speed and the gearbox was really that vague. Shift throws were longish but there was easily an inch and a half of play while the car was in gear. She said it was always like that.

Have VW manual, can confirm.

I like to think of my gear stick as a G-force meter, considering how much it moves around following the car’s acceleration.
